Refund not received for a cancelled train? Know what to do next

There are typically three cases when there is a delay in receiving the refund for a cancelled train. Read on to know more.

1. If you have received an SMS from Indian Railways informing you that your train has been cancelled and the status of booking on Paytm is still “Booking Successful”, we advise you to:

  • Please wait for 72 hrs from the time of receiving SMS for the booking status to be changed on Paytm to Cancelled and Refund initiated
  • Not cancel the ticket on Paytm as you would be eligible for a full refund (minus IRCTC convenience fee and other charges) if the ticket is auto-cancelled by Indian Railways. In some cases, it is possible for your to incur normal cancellation charges if you cancel on your own
  • In rare cases, the train status could be restored. So keep a watch on the train status with the help of live train tracking feature on Paytm

2. If you have not received an SMS from Indian Railways informing you that your train has been cancelled and the status of booking on Paytm is still “Booking Successful”, we advise you to:

  • Please wait for 72 hrs from boarding time for the booking status to be changed on Paytm to Cancelled and Refund initiated
  • Not cancel the ticket on Paytm as you would be eligible for a full refund (minus IRCTC convenience fee and other charges) if the ticket is auto-cancelled by Indian Railways.

3. If the status on Paytm is “Booking Cancelled”, the refund details would be available on the booking summary page. If the status shows “Refunded”, then we advise you to check with the bank. If the status shows” Refund Pending”, we advise you to wait 24 hrs for the refund to be tried once again from our end.
